The matchup could well be the culmination of their story, although they will likely see the ring together again - they’re some of the brightest young stars in WWE.

WWE Championship Match - Drew McIntyre vs. Randy Orton

Drew McIntyre has been an absolute wrecking ball of a champion since Wrestlemania, dominating all of his matches up until now.

Randy Orton is in the midst of something of a career renaissance, noting that he had to improve his promo skills to reach the next level.

“I look forward to continuing to concentrate on my promos,” Orton told Sports Illustrated. “There was a lot there I was missing earlier in my career, and I don’t want to miss out on it anymore.”

Orton has been electric the last few months, resuming his role as the Legend Killer, destroying everyone in his path, even former friends like Ric Flair.

Orton is ruthless, and currently performing some of the best work of his career. McIntyre is elite, and a deserving champion.

Interestingly, Orton is a favorite here, which would be an interesting direction to take this storyline. McIntyre has been a good champion, although he hasn’t had much in the way of opponents recently.

Orton looks to be his first real test, and is a veteran champion himself. In fact, the story between Orton and Flair revolves to a degree around Orton pursuing Flair’s championship record.

It could certainly add an interesting wrinkle for Orton to acquire his fourteenth major championship (WWE Championship + World Heavyweight Championship) in the WWE.
