TAMPA, Fla. – Those who were waiting until the last minute to bet on the length of the National Anthem at Super Bowl 55 may be out of luck as many online sportsbooks have pulled the odds down.
Many online sportsbooks originally had the betting line set at 1 minute and 59 seconds long. But, after a practice run of the anthem went viral on Twitter, many online sportsbooks including ones such as BetOnline and Bovada stopped accepting bets for those odds.

Zach Maskavich, a report based in Orlando, Florida, timed the practice run of the National Anthem and clocked it at 2:16. This means anyone who wants to bet the Over had a distinct advantage and online sportsbooks weren’t going to let this run by.
"Just about every year there is a leak on the national anthem, and we see a wave of one-sided action a few days before the game," said Dave Mason, Betonline's brand manager, to ESPN on Saturday. "Yesterday that wave of action was more suspicious than previous years. Within a few seconds we took about two dozen max bets from sharper accounts. They kept betting over from 2:00 up to 2:10. At that point we knew there was some very strong intel out there somewhere, so we decided to take the odds down."

NFL bettors can bet on props such as which player will be shown first on camera first during the anthem, which coach will be shown first, will either singer omit a word, and whether or not a scoring drive will be shorter than the anthem to name a few.
Other online sportsbooks have taken a different route to deal with the issue. Sites like MyBookie have altered the line to accommodate for the new information that people betting on the Super Bowl have.
Super Bowl 55 National Anthem Length Of Time Odds
- Over 2 min 15.5 seconds -125
- Under 2min 15.5 seconds -105
Along with shifting the line, MyBookie has reduced the max bet amount for this wager to just $100. Sportsbooks normally take smaller amounts for Super Bowl special prop bets, but it is usually greater than just 100 dollars.
While this may put a damper on some people’s Super Bowl 55 betting experience, the Twitter post wasn’t intended to do that.
"I had a feeling it was going to gain some traction, leading up to the Super Bowl, and people liking prop bets," said Maskavich. "But I didn't think it was going to blow up like it did. People are reaching out to me, wondering if Vegas paid me to do it, and all these other crazy shenanigans."
There are still well over 100 other Super Bowl 55 prop bets to choose from before kickoff so sports bettors can still enjoy the single biggest sports betting event of the year.
