CHARLESTON, W.V. – The two-year anniversary of mobile betting in West Virginia is here and the market has continued to expand since launch.
There are now five active mobile betting operations in the West Virginia sports betting industry which have all contributed to an immense revenue increase with each year that passes.
West Virginia is expected to see continued growth heading into its third year of having mobile sports wagering platforms. Online sportsbooks remain the primary way WV locals bet on all sporting events.
Mobile Betting Helps Revenue Climb In West Virginia
Prior to hosting mobile sports betting, West Virginia saw a slow start in the industry. WV launched regulated sports gaming in September 2018 but the market was not an immediate hit because mobile access was not yet available.
The following year in August 2019, West Virginia rolled out DraftKings and FanDuel sportsbooks and saw immediate success heading into the NFL betting season. This continued as BetMGM launched in January 2020 and then Caesars Sportsbook went live in August 2021.
West Virginia now sees revenue numbers as high as over $3 million monthly according to official reports released by the West Virginia Lottery.
