- Frankie Edgar faces off against Pedro Munhoz in Edgar’s UFC bantamweight debut.
- Edgar has underdog odds of +200 on the moneyline.
- Edgar has lost three of his last four fights, two of them by TKO.
LAS VEGAS – Saturday’s UFC Fight Night main event features Frankie Edgar taking on Pedro Munhoz.
Edgar might be a familiar name to many UFC bettors, as he’s been with the promotion for a long time now. That said, he has his work cut out for him in this fight, as Pedro Munhoz looks to be a significant favorite.
The main concern for those that would want to wager on Edgar as an underdog here is whether or not he can even compete at his previous level anymore.
Edgar’s last fights have gone poorly.
- 2017: Edgar faced off against Brian Ortega, and lost by TKO. This was Edgar’s first career loss by stoppage.
- 2018: Edgar defeated Cub Swanson by unanimous decision.
- 2019: Edgar lost to Max Holloway by unanimous decision.
- 2019: Edgar lost to Chan Sung Jung (The Korean Zombie) by TKO.
That’s an overall record of 1-3, with two stoppage losses to boot.
Edgar had never lost by stoppage prior to the fight against Ortega, but since the TKO at the hands of Ortega, he’s taken another TKO loss as well.
Edgar is 39 now, which is well into the age range where fighters start to fall off at bantamweight, and his last fights have left bettors skittish.
In addition, this is Edgar’s first fight at bantamweight after his official move to the division. Making weight didn’t seem to be a problem, naturally - Edgar moved to bantamweight from flyweight.
Frankie Edgar successfully weighed in for his bantamweight debut, coming in at 135.5 pounds.

Munhoz’s record isn’t nearly as spotty as Edgar’s, although there are some blemishes on it.

He has two major losses that mark him, at this point. The first is a loss to John Dodson by split decision in 2018, and the second is a unanimous decision defeat at the hands of Aljamain Sterling in 2019.
A split decision loss is still a loss, but it’s certainly better than being TKO’d. That said, Dodson is anything but a top contender, and the loss is certainly a black mark on Munhoz’s record.
A loss to Sterling is potentially excusable - Sterling is an immense fighter, and currently ranked second in the division.
This is generally how this fight tends to be looked at - Edgar is on the downswing, and has a suspect chin, while Munhoz is younger, fresher, higher ranked, and has a better recent resume.
Given this, it’s not a surprise that the online sportsbooks have Munhoz as such a heavy favorite in this matchup.
Frankie Edgar vs. Pedro Munhoz
- Frankie Edgar +200
- Pedro Munhoz -260
That said, Edgar is a fighter who, at least at some point, had all the tools to make quick work of Munhoz. The question is whether or not Edgar can wield those tools effectively anymore.
The midpoint of the bets on how long the fight will go appears to be Round 3, which makes some sense.
Fight to complete 3 full rounds
- Yes (Fight Completes 3 Full Rounds) -110
- No (Fight Does Not Complete 3 Full Rounds) -120
The fight is +150 to go the distance (complete five full rounds), and +250 to end before the first round does.
There are a lot of good ways for UFC bettors to wager on this matchup, and despite the odds, Edgar’s skillset makes him a compelling underdog.
This looks to be a good one, so make sure bets get placed before the fight starts! The main card is set to start at 8:30 p.m. EST.
