LAS VEGAS - Following Justin Trudeau's move towards dissolving parliament, he's called for a snap election in which Canadian voters will decide their next prime minister far earlier than expected.

To his surprise, his opponents betting odds are a bit better than many may have expected.

Canadian Party Odds

Popular online sportsbook, Bovada, shows Trudeau's opposing party, the Conservative Party, as +200 underdogs. While his own Liberal Party is still favored at -300 to win, these are still surprisingly close odds.

2021 Canadian Federal Election Odds

  • Liberal Party -300
  • Conservative Party +200

While Trudeau claims that the snap election is about ensuring that the people decide by whom future Canadian COVID-19 regulations are handled, some believe it's more about taking advantage of his party's currently high polling numbers.

“The decisions your government makes right now will define the future your kids and grandkids will grow up in," said Trudeau, to several reporters, after meeting with Governor General Mary Simon.

Underdog Opposition

His primary opponent, Erin O'Toole, has been vocal about his readiness to assume the position of prime minister should he win the election.

"From the first day of my leadership, my priority has been to build a Conservative movement where every Canadian can feel at home," he said.

This election is certainly shaping up to be wager-worthy for fans of political betting. Although Trudeau is currently favored to win, O'Toole is polling surprisingly well, lingering only a few points behind Trudeau.
