Elliott is the natural favorite for this week’s race due to his dominance on road course races.
Elliott has won five of the last six road course races on the NASCAR Cup Series, including the most recent race at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin just two weeks ago. Elliott was declared the winner after the race was called late due to rain and low visibility.

Even so, Elliott has racked up three top-five finishes in a row, including a runner-up last week in Charlotte, and appears to be in top form for the middle of the season.
Sonoma is also the only road course Elliott has yet to win, so there could be some added motivation for the #9 car this weekend.
His being competition is Martin Truex Jr., who sits at +400 for those looking to bet on NASCAR.
Truex won three road course races from 2017 to 2019, with two of them coming at Sonoma.
Those looking for a longshot can get great odds on someone like Ryan Blaney at +2000 or Christopher Bell at +2800.
Both Blaney and Bell are recent road course winners, and could pose a threat to the field at Sonoma.
