LONDON – The role of the next James Bond has reached sportsbooks and Regé-Jean Page of Bridgerton fame is the current favorite.

Other big-name British actors like Tom Hardy and James Norton are also seeing action, as well as the ‘Man of Steel’ actor Henry Cavill.

Interestingly enough, Idris Elba is seeing long odds, despite being a fan favorite for the role for some time. Entertainment betting seems to be leaning heavily on the newer star, however.

Regé-Jean Page has stated he has not been presented the role of the titular secret agent but has claimed it’s something that all British actors get attached to by fans.

“I think there might be an element of cultural translation to be done here,” said Page. “Like if you’re a Brit, and you do something of any kind of renowned that people regard well, then people start saying the ‘B’ word.”

As the Daniel Craig era of James Bond has come to a close, it makes sense that no actor has been approached as of yet to begin the new era. Page, alongside other British stars, are still seeing major action, however.

Page has taken the world by storm with his portrayal of Simon Basset on the Netflix hit series Bridgerton and has gained a massive following because of it. The studio will likely aim to capitalize on his fame and have him attached to the new Bond series.

Page would also be the first person of color to play Bond, something that fans expect to be seen, a reason behind why Idris Elba has been a long speculated 007 candidate in the past.

Elba has also publicly stated that while the fans have attached him to the role of Bond, he has not been officially approached.
