- Rookie WR Rashod Bateman for the Baltimore Ravens will need to have groin surgery this week.
- Bateman is expected to be back on the field sometime in September.
- The Baltimore Ravens are the fifth favored team by sportsbooks to win the Super Bowl in 2022 with odds of +1400.
BALTIMORE – The Baltimore Ravens scored big when they chose wide receiver Rashod Bateman as their first-round NFL draft pick this year but the rookie has already become injured during practice on Tuesday and it’s an injury that will require surgery. During a one-on-one drill, Bateman hurt the right side of his groin and will be having the necessary surgery this week to fix the problem.
However, this puts his starting spot for the Ravens in jeopardy. It is unlikely that Bateman will be able to play in the first game of the season on September 13 against the Las Vegas Raiders. While fans are worried, head coach John Harbaugh isn’t.
“He’ll be back from that sometime in September,” said Harbaugh. “I think that’s pretty good news.”
Bateman also believes he will have a speedy recovery.
What This Means For The Ravens
Betting on the NFL and on the Ravens could see odds shift if Bateman doesn’t make it back in time. Even when he does, the rookie will need to take it easy while figuring out how to play in the NFL as it’s vastly different from college ball.

Sportsbooks have Bateman up with odds of +5000 to be the Offensive Rookie of the Year in the 2021-2022 NFL season. He’s 14th on the board to win the title making him a longshot and this injury could make him even more of one. Of course, Trevor Lawrence is the favorite to win this award with odds of +275.
The Ravens have +1400 odds to take the Super Bowl, putting them fifth out of 32 which are great odds. Hopefully, Rashod can contribute to making this a reality for the team who went 11-5 in the 2020-2021 season, coming in second in the AFC North. During his college career with Minnesota, Bateman received for 2395 yards and had 19 touchdowns in the 31 games he played.
Can The Ravens Do It?
Online sportsbooks believe that the Baltimore Ravens are big contenders this season for the Super Bowl. If Bateman can get back on the squad quickly, he could really help his team in reaching that goal. After the opening game with the Raiders, the Ravens will face the Kansas City Chiefs and then the Detroit Lions, making a quick comeback what fans and teammates are hoping for, for this NFL rookie.
