- Vashti Cunningham, daughter of Randall Cunningham, will compete in the women’s high jump.
- She has +400 odds to win gold, as the second favored betting option in the field.
TOKYO – Vashti Cunningham will enter the women’s high jump as Randall Cunningham’s daughter but will hope to leave the event as an Olympic medalist.
She’s in a great spot to be on the podium but could struggle to win gold.
Who Is Vashti Cunningham?
Vashti Cunningham is a 23-year-old Olympic high jumper from Las Vegas, Nevada.
Vashti competed in the 2016 Olympics in the high jump and placed 13. At the time at which she qualified for the 2016 Olympics, she was the youngest U.S. track and field athlete to do so since 1980.
She set a personal best earlier this year in the outdoor high jump at 6’7.5” and did the same with the indoor high jump at 6’6.5”. Online sportsbooks see the improvements she’s making and have set her as the second betting option in the field.

Cunningham’s Odds And Competition
Cunningham, for as good as she is, is well placed as the second betting option.
Her personal records don’t quite stack up against the favorite, Yaroslava Mahuchikh, who has EVEN odds to win gold on Olympic betting sites.
Tokyo 2021 - Women's High Jump
- Yaroslava Mahuchikh (UKR) EVEN
- Vashti Cunningham (USA) +400
- Mariya Lasitskene (ANA) +450
- Nicole McDermott (AUS) +750
- Nadezhda Dubovitskaya (KAZ) +1000
Mahuchikh has a personal best of 6’8.25” for outdoor and 6’9” for indoor high jump and is just 19-years-old.
She’s clearly the favorite as her ceiling is higher than the competition at the moment. Cunningham may need to set a new personal best if she is going to win the gold, which is possible, but not probable.
