TAMPA, Fla. – The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will host the Los Angeles Rams in Week 9 of the season where the Bucs are favored by 3 points. Both teams are in “get right” situations going forward as both sit below .500 records and could be in jeopardy of missing the playoffs if their performance continues.

Both offenses have the pieces to be explosive and have proven that after being top-10 scoring teams last season. Where things point towards over 44 points is on the defensive side of things.

After both teams were noted as defensive forces in the league last season, both have taken huge leaps backward since then. Tampa Bay did get off to a strong start in the first three weeks letting up less than two touchdowns in each game, however, they’ve given up 3+ TDs in four of their last five games and against some of the league’s worst offenses in the Carolina Panthers and Pittsburgh Steelers. Both of them are bottom-12 scoring teams this season.

On the Rams side of things, they just haven’t gotten anything going on the defensive end having let five of their seven opponents this season go for 3+ TDs as well.

Matthew Stafford has been having a season to forget thus far having thrown for just seven touchdowns and eight interceptions on 1,763 yards. He could look to turn things around against Tampa Bay though and at plus NFL odds for some tremendous value. Against the Buccaneers in his career, Stafford has thrown for over 1.5 TDs in four of six games. In four games against Tom Brady in his career, he has gone 2-2 with the over.

Although Stafford has thrown over 1.5 touchdowns once this season, the Bucs defense is surely one to let him get back on track in that area. They’ve let four of eight opposing QBs throw for over 1.5 TDs this season including in each of their last two games.

Chris Godwin has quietly been one of the most consistent receivers not just on the Bucs, but in the league. While he has only gone over 64.5 yards twice this season, one of the biggest signs pointing toward him hitting the over is that Jalen Ramsey will have Mike Evans to focus on leaving Godwin to shake off one of the other DBs that don’t have the same skillset as Ramsey has.

Godwin has also done a solid job in three career games against the Rams having gone over in two games. In seven games also, the Rams have let eight players go over 64.5 receiving yards. While Godwin is listed as the WR2 on the Bucs depth chart, he does et WR1 looks as he is just four targets behind Mike Evans with 55 on the year. That said, he gets plenty of opportunities and should continue to do so in Week 9.
