NFL Specials Bet: Which Team Will Sign Colin Kaepernick?

ATLANTA – It has been a long time since fans have seen Colin Kaepernick under center for an NFL team and it doesn’t seem likely that a team will take the chance on him this season. On Saturday, the disgruntled quarterback held a workout in front of NFL scouts with hopes of impressing one of them enough to earn a job as a quarterback in the NFL.

Although the NFL season is more than halfway over Kaepernick can still be signed as a free agent by any team. He last played for the San Francisco 49ers three years ago where he threw for 2,241 yards, 16 touchdowns, and only four interceptions through 12 games. There’s little doubt that Kaepernick has the talent to still play in the NFL, but questions remain of his drive to play football.

There are three teams that could potentially use Kaepernick’s services at the quarterback position. Those teams are the Cincinnati Bengals, Chicago Bears, and Carolina Panthers. Each team currently has issues at quarterback and signing Kaepernick might be able to help keep the team afloat until a better option presents itself.

Cincinnati Bengals (+350)

The Bengals are the only team in the NFL that has yet to record a victory this season. Under first-year head coach Zac Taylor the Bengals have been dismal. They’ve already benched long-time starter Andy Dalton and they’ve already begun preparing for the upcoming NFL Draft. This could lead to why Cincinnati is the favorite to sign Colin Kaepernick at +350 odds. Having an athletic and mobile quarterback would be a breath of fresh air for the Bengals offense. Signing Kaepernick would be an immediate upgrade over current starter Ryan Finley. Kaepernick would allow the franchise to remain competitive as they try to find their quarterback of the future.

Chicago Bears (+1200)

The Chicago Bears have not looked good on offense for much of this season. On the season, the Bears have averaged the third-fewest yards per game at 262.7, and their 16.9 point per game also puts their offense in the basement of the NFL. Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky has not lived up to his No. 2 overall draft status thus far and averages a league-low 5.6 yards per pass attempt.

If the Bears were to move on from Trubisky, Kaepernick provides them with a quarterback that can at least make this offense a threat down the field with his big arm. The +1200 odds for the Bears to sign Kaepernick make them seem like a longshot to do so; but with Trubisky’s latest injury, the franchise could be forced to take a closer look at signing the free agent. This makes the Bears even more likely to sign Kaepernick.

Carolina Panthers (+800)

The Carolina Panthers have been without their starting quarterback Cam Newton for most of the season with a Lisfranc injury. While Newton has been out, Kyle Allen has made some impressive starts for the Panthers. However, Allen may not be the long-term solution for the franchise going forward especially if the Panthers elect to give the job back to Cam Newton when healthy.

For now, the Panthers are likely to stick with Allen for the rest of the season. However, once the season ends Carolina may sign Kaepernick to be the backup quarterback behind Cam Newton who has been plagued with injuries the past two seasons. This would allow the Panthers some of the same read options plays that they ran with Newton under center.
