NFL Awards Odds Movement After Week 2 Of The 2021 Season

  • Kyler Murray has become the +650 second choice for MVP behind Patrick Mahomes +550.
  • Patrick Surtain II now has +500 odds as the favorite to win Defensive Rookie of the Year.
  • Chandler Jones +1000 has entered the top three for Defensive Player of the Year.

PHOENIX – The odds for which players will win the end-of-season awards have seen some major movement in just two weeks of the NFL schedule.

MVP Odds: Kyler Murray Enters Top Two

The odds for MVP still have the preseason favorite, Patrick Mahomes, with the shortest line, but Kyler Murray has severely closed the gap. Before the season began, online sportsbooks listed Murray in the +2000 ballpark but he now sits at +650 as the second choice.

2021-2022 NFL MVP

  • Patrick Mahomes +550
  • Kyler Murray +650
  • Tom Brady +700
  • Matthew Stafford +1200
  • Russell Wilson +1200
  • Dak Prescott +1400
  • Josh Allen +1400
  • Lamar Jackson +1400
  • Aaron Rodgers +1600
  • Derek Carr +2500
  • Justin Herbert +2500
  • Baker Mayfield +3500

Another noticeable mover is Derek Carr who has surprisingly led his team to a 2-0 start on the season. Carr currently leads the league in passing yards while Murray is second.

Defensive Rookie Of The Year: A New Favorite Emerges

Micah Parsons was the +550 betting favorite prior to the beginning of the season but has since fallen a bit in the wake of Patrick Surtain II becoming the new favorite. Surtain II, the ninth overall pick in the draft, opened around +1100 to +1200 but now sits at +500 with the shortest odds of any player.

NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year

  • Patrick Surtain II +500
  • Micah Parsons +600
  • Jamin Davis +800
  • Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah +1000
  • Jaycee Horn +1200
  • Zaven Collins +1200
  • Jaelan Phillips +1400
  • Kwity Paye +1400
  • Jayson Oweh +1600
  • Azeez Ojulari +1800
  • Joe Tryon +1800
  • Caleb Farley +2000
  • Gregory Rousseau +2000
  • Trevon Moehrig-Woodard +2200
  • Greg Newsome II +3300

Surtain II had his first career interception last week and tallied four total tackles and defended a pass. While Surtain II’s debut was impressive, Parsons may still be deserving of being the favorite. He played linebacker in college and in his first NFL game as well, however, due to the Cowboys' injuries, he had to play defensive end. In doing so, Parsons had one of the most dominant rookie performances in recent memory.

NFL betting sites shouldn’t have been so quick to take Parsons out of the role of favorite as he’s sure to have plenty of more games with an equal impact like that of last weekend.

Defensive Player Of The Year: Chandler Jones Rises Quickly

Chandler Jones had five sacks in the season opener and thus flew up the odds boards for Defensive Player of the Year. He opened around +5000 but has since seen his odds drop to +1000 as the third betting choice on the board.

NFL Defensive Player of the Year

  • Aaron Donald +650
  • Myles Garrett +700
  • Chandler Jones +1000
  • TJ Watt +1100
  • Devin White +1600
  • Nick Bosa +1600
  • Chase Young +1800
  • Jalen Ramsey +2000
  • Darius Leonard +2500
  • Derwin James +2500
  • Joey Bosa +2500
  • Khalil Mack +3500

Jones didn’t tally a sack in Week 2 but still leads the league. The sample size is small and the chances of repeating a five-sack performance are even smaller which could mean that this is the time to get other players at a better price. T.J. Watt (3.0 sacks, 2 forced fumbles) at +1100 and Danielle Hunter (4.0 sacks) at +4000 may be the better value plays.
