Scott Dixon As The Betting Favorite
Dixon is well-deserving of his label as the favorite in this year’s Indy 500. He’s placed within the top three twice over the past three years, finished in the top 10 in each of his practice runs this month and was the runner-up last year after leading over half of the laps.
He also won the pole position, essentially making it his race to lose. The pole position starter has won the Indy 500 five times in the last 17 years, including Dixon himself in 2008.
This will be Dixon’s fourth time starting the Indy 500 on the pole, placing top four in two of the previous three times.
Colton Herta (+600) Over Valued?
Herta has been struggling in the practice runs and might be listed with too short of odds on online sportsbooks.

Not only has he been underwhelming in the practice sessions, but he’s been wildly inconsistent in the races themselves. Herta has as many placements worse than 20 as he does in the top five this season. He’s won a race, came in fifth, and still is averaging a 12.6 finish through five races.
Herta has all the talent it takes to win the race, but his recent form and history of inconsistencies make his odds just not valuable enough to be worth the risk.
Can Takuma Sato Repeat As Champ?
In terms of value, there might not be a better option than the reigning winner, Takuma Sato. Not only did Sato win the Indy 500 in 2020, but he also won in 2017 and finished third in 2019.
However, history doesn’t necessarily favor Sato in the race as there has been only one driver to win back-to-back Indy 500’s in the last 50 years.
Regardless of history, it’s not often a bettor can get someone who’s had as much success as Sato has here as the 10th betting option. Sports betting sites are giving out an opportunity too valuable to not take advantage of.
