BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – The state of Michigan is not the first location people think of when considering sports betting destinations, but that all could change in the near future.
The state of Michigan opened its first tribal casino sportsbook on Monday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at FireKeepers Casino in Battle Creek.
Dubbed Dacey’s Sportsbook, the location is now offering and accepting full wagers on all types of major and minor sports.
The FireKeepers Casino Hotel is owned by the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi Native American tribe. The tribe held a traditional ceremony for tribal members, executives of the casino, and the media.
Monday was a big day at FireKeepers, as they were also celebrating the completion of their brand-new hotel tower. The new eight-floor expansion tower adds 203 additional hotel rooms and is scheduled to be housing guests by the first quarter of 2021.
The larger news comes from the unveiling of the sportsbook, which becomes one of the very first sportsbooks in Michigan.
Back in the end of 2019, Michigan was able to pass MI HB 4916, which officially legalized sports betting in the state.

Dacey is a local businessman who was a key factor in getting the casino off the ground over ten years ago.
Now, he is the first person to place a bet at the sportsbook at Firekeepers.
Dacey placed the first bet on Rory McIlroy to win the Masters.
Now, the areas of outer Michigan can hope to bring in additional tourism revenue from local residents coming to Battle Creek to place their bets.
