- The Preakness Stakes will take place on May 21, 2022.
- Epicenter and Zandon are favorites, but neither has confirmed competing.
- Mattress Mack lost $2.6 million wagering on Epicenter in the Kentucky Derby.
BALTIMORE, Md. – Mattress Mack, the famous sports betting furniture store owner, placed a hasty wager on Epicenter to win the Kentucky Derby.
Mack, who is well known for his betting proclivities, did not appear to do much research before his wager, simply placing $2.6 million on the favorite just before the race started.
As all are aware by now, the Kentucky Derby was won by 80-1 underdog Rich Strike, and not by Epicenter.
Horse racing gambling fans should take note, and not be like Mattress Mack. It is always a good idea to familiarize yourself with the field before betting blindly.

Intriguingly, Epicenter is leading the field in the 2022 Preakness Stakes. Perhaps Mack was only one race off.
The horse is still regarded as arguably the top competitor in the field and did finish second place in the Kentucky Derby.

However, it is currently unclear whether or not Epicenter – or third place Zandon – will compete in the Preakness.
Steve Asmussen, Epicenter’s trainer, demurred when asked if his horse was going to compete in the Preakness.
“We were going to wait until he goes back to the track and then discuss it,” Asmussen said. “But I’m extremely happy with everything I see to this point, just kind of want to see how he travels, his energy level underweight.”
Derby winner Rich Strike will compete in the Preakness, as will Simplification, who finished fourth in the Derby.
At this point, if a given online gambling sites user behaved like Mattress Mack, they could be betting on a horse who isn’t even in the race.
