- The New York Yankees are -140 favorites over the Houston Astros.
- Stefanos Tsitsipas has -4000 odds to defeat Benoit Paire.
- The Colorado Avalanche are -280 favorites over the San Jose Sharks.
LAS VEGAS - Welcome to the Daily Sports Betting Preview on this excellent Wednesday!
First up on the Preview, the Houston Astros take on the New York Yankees in a hotly contested MLB matchup. Then, ATP Madrid sees Stefanos Tsitsipas taking on Benoit Paire, with Tsitsipas as a notably large favorite. Finally, in the NHL, the Colorado Avalanche face off against the San Jose Sharks.
There’s a lot to cover, so let’s get started!
MLB Betting
The New York Yankees and the Houston Astros have some bad blood - the Astros have bad blood with a lot of teams, come to think of it.
The “Fuck Altuve” chants are still alive

Derogatory chants aside, the matchup between these two teams should be heated on Wednesday, as both are sitting on 15-14 records, and both have higher expectations.
The Yankees are in the process of recovering from a slow start, and they’ve won seven of their last ten games. The Astros, meanwhile, seem to be about average in most respects. They’re 8-7 on the road, and they’ve won 6 of their last ten games.
Houston Astros vs. New York Yankees Odds On The Moneyline
- Houston Astros +120
- New York Yankees -140
The Yankees find themselves favored, although they are receiving the benefit of high preseason expectations.
The Yankees have an excellent collection of talent, and while they haven’t managed to live up to it yet this season, they’re still expected to be the top team in the American League.
This gives them something of a cushion on the odds boards, even when they’re playing against a team with a similar overall record to them.
Houston Astros vs. New York Yankees Run Line Odds
- Houston Astros +1.5 (-155)
- New York Yankees -1.5 (+135)
Incredibly, these two teams not only have identical straight up records, but they also have identical run line records.
Both of these teams are 14-15 against the run line, and the only difference between their run line home/road splits is that the Yankees are 8-7 on the run line at home, and the Astros are 8-7 on the run line away.
The fact is that these two teams are so close to average in this respect that it’s hard to discern a serious trend pointing one way or the other.
MLB betting fans could simply take the points on the run line, given how evenly matched the two teams seem to be right now.
This game airs live on YES Network, ESPN+, and MLB Extra Innings, and will begin at 7:05 p.m. EST.
Tennis Betting
ATP Madrid features some of the best tennis players in the world, and Stefanos Tsitsipas is certainly among that number.

Tsitsipas has a matchup scheduled against Benoit Paire, and it is Tsitsipas, not Rafael Nadal, who finds himself the biggest betting favorite of the day.
Stefanos Tsitsipas vs. Benoit Paire Moneyline
- Stefanos Tsitsipas -4000
- Benoit Paire +1300
Tsitsipas is coming off of an ATP Open finals appearance in Barcelona last week, and is looking to continue his run of good form.
The online sportsbooks certainly believe that he will make it out of this round, as his prohibitive -4000 moneyline betting odds will attest.
Stefanos Tsitsipas vs. Benoit Paire Spread
- Stefanos Tsitsipas -6.5 (-120)
- Benoit Paire +6.5 (-110)
Tsitsipas has defeated Paire the last two times they’ve seen each other, and neither matchup was particularly close.
Given this, it’s not hard to see why he’s such a favorite on the moneyline, and it’s not hard to see why the spread is so lopsided as well. The spread sees Tsitsipas as a -6.5 game favorite in a matchup that could easily end in his favor before he has time to cover the spread.
Still, it’s a fair spread, and given how favored Tsitsipas is on the moneyline, not something that’s out of the realm of expectation.
Tennis betting fans can watch this match at 2:15 p.m. EST, and it will be available on Tennis TV and ESPN+.
NHL Betting
The Colorado Avalanche are an elite team in the NHL, and they’ve boasted the shortest odds to win the Stanley Cup for most of the season. For the most part, they’ve lived up to their billing, with a record of 34-12-3-1 over the course of the season so far.
Today, they’re faced with the San Jose Sharks, a team that is, to be blunt, not on their level.
The Sharks have an overall record of 20-26-3-3, and have won only two of their last ten games in regulation. The matchup is unsurprisingly lopsided on the odds boards.
Colorado Avalanche vs. San Jose Sharks Odds On The Moneyline
- Colorado Avalanche -280
- San Jose Sharks +230
The Avalanche are almost 1:3 favorites entering the matchup, and while they have been a worse road team than home team (8 of their regulation losses come on the road), they’re clearly superior to the Sharks.
The odds on the Avalanche to win this game are fairly prohibitive as far as regular season hockey betting odds go. Of the nine NHL games today, no team is more favored in any game than the Avalanche are in this game.
Colorado Avalanche vs. San Jose Sharks Puck Line Odds
- Colorado Avalanche -1.5 (-110)
- San Jose Sharks +1.5 (-110)
The puck line manages to split the difference between these two teams perfectly, giving both teams -110 odds to cover.
The Avalanche are 22-28 on the puck line, notably one of the only situations in which they’re genuinely underwhelming. The Sharks, meanwhile, are 29-23 on the puck line, and could actually be a solid play given this record and their +1.5 handicap.
Hockey betting enthusiasts can watch this matchup at 9:38 p.m. EST on NBC Sports.
