- Jon Rahm has +650 odds to win the Waste Management Phoenix Open.
- The Boston Bruins are road favorites over the Philadelphia Flyers.
- The Super Bowl could be the highest scoring of all time.
LAS VEGAS - Welcome to this Wednesday edition of the Daily Sports Betting Preview.
First up is the Phoenix Open, as some of the best golfers on the PGA Tour get set to tee off. Then, in the NHL, the Boston Bruins take on the Philadelphia Flyers.
Finally, the Super Bowl is only days away, and there are a lot of intriguing prop bets available.
There’s a lot to cover, so let’s get started!
PGA Betting
The 2021 edition of the Waste Management Phoenix Open is set to tee off early on Thursday morning.
This means that bettors should get their wagers in ASAP, before the lines change.
2021 Waste Management Phoenix Open Odds
- Jon Rahm +650
- Justin Thomas +800
- Rory McIlroy +1000
- Xander Schauffele +1100
- Webb Simpson +1600
- Daniel Berger +2000
- Hideki Matsuyama +2200
- Harris English +2800
- Sungjae Im +2800
- Will Zalatoris +3300
- Brooks Koepka +4000
- Bubba Watson +4000
- Rickie Fowler +4000
- Scottie Scheffler +4000
Jon Rahm sits atop the odds boards for this tournament, leading the field at +650. In the absence of Dustin Johnson, Rahm is perhaps the single best golfer in the world.
Rahm has never finished worse than a tie for 16th place when playing this tournament in his five previous attempts. He’s a great pick for a top ten finish, which he has -165 odds to achieve, having done so in three of his five previous attempts at this tournament.
Justin Thomas is next on the odds boards, joining Rahm as one of two golfers under +1000 odds. Rory McIlroy is on the outside of that club looking in, as he has +1000 odds to win this tournament.
Xander Schauffele makes up the last spot in the top tier, only 100 points behind McIlroy at +1100.
The top end of this tournament is stacked, but there are plenty of intriguing wagers to be taken on golfers like Sungjae Im, Bubba Watson and Rickie Fowler.
Golf betting enthusiasts have the whole field to choose from, as other than a consistent finish from Jon Rahm, this event could be quite unpredictable.
NHL Betting
The Boston Bruins are currently in third place in the NHL’s Eastern Division, and are once again facing off with a top rival.
The Bruins are fresh off of a couple games against the Washington Capitals, and return to action against the first place Philadelphia Flyers. When they played the Caps, the Caps sat atop the division, so this will technically be their third matchup against the first place team in the East in a row.
Boston Bruins vs. Philadelphia Flyers Moneyline
- Boston Bruins -135
- Philadelphia Flyers +115
The Bruins are expected to win this matchup, even though Philly has only dropped one game at home so far this season.
Boston’s 6-1-2-0 record is impressive, although it’s worth noting that their road record of 2-1-2-0 is a bit less impressive than their 4-0 home record. On the puck line, they’ve rarely covered, with a 3-6 overall record and a 1-4 road record.
Philadelphia enters this matchup with a record of 7-2-0-1 overall, and a 5-1-0-0 straight up home record. On the puck line, the Flyers are 6-4 overall, but only 3-3 at home compared to 3-1 on the road.

The Flyers are currently riding a four game winning streak, and they’ll have their work cut out for them if they want it to continue.
Boston Bruins vs. Philadelphia Flyers Puck Line
- Boston Bruins -1.5 (+195)
- Philadelphia Flyers +1.5 (-235)
The puck line is heavily weighted towards Flyers +1.5, which makes sense.
Given Boston’s struggles at covering the puck line this season, the Flyers on the puck line could look like an attractive wager to many NHL betting enthusiasts.
Super Bowl Prop Betting
The Super Bowl is set to kick off at 6:30 p.m. EST on February 7th, 2020, which means that sportsbooks are already offering all the wagers they can.
There are far too many Super Bowl props to cover all of them in detail, so let’s look at one that really represents what this game could be like.
Will both teams combined score 76 or more points to break the Super Bowl record?
- Yes +400
- No -700
The most points ever scored in a single Super Bowl is 76 points. With Patrick Mahomes, it seems like only a matter of time until that record gets shattered.
Could this be the year?
The Chiefs averaged 29.6 points per game in the regular season, while the Buccaneers averaged 30.7.
In terms of pure points per game, these were both top five offenses in the league.
However, their combined averages add up to 60.3 points per game, which is fairly far off from the record of 76.
The O/U line for Super Bowl 55 is currently set at 56.0 points, with shading actually going towards the Under, which has -115 odds.
The sportsbook offering this prop bet is Bovada, which also offers alternate O/U lines. When looking at those alternate lines in the context of this prop, one really sticks out:
Alternate O/U SB 55
- Over 68.0 +400
- Under 68.0 -650
That is the highest alternate O/U line that the sportsbook offers. Note that the Over has the same value as this over, but requires eight fewer points to hit.
There is some value in this prop still, as the Under is fairly undervalued. -700 odds for No is pretty good value.
Effectively, if a given NFL betting fan wanted to say yes to this prop, they’d be better off taking the Alternate O/U line, while if that fan wanted to say no, the prop is a solid play.
Good luck!
