LAS VEGAS - Welcome to this Tuesday edition of the Daily Sports Betting Preview!
Today’s Preview starts off with a look at the matchup between Liverpool and RB Leipzig. It is the first leg of their UEFA Champions League matchup. Then, in the NHL, the Washington Capitals take on the Pittsburgh Penguins. Finally, in the NBA, the Brooklyn Nets battle the Phoenix Suns without Kevin Durant.
There’s a lot to cover, so let’s get started!
Champions League Betting
Liverpool and RB Leipzig are in fairly similar sports in their domestic leagues this season - trailing behind a superteam.
Liverpool are in sixth place in the Premier League, while Leipzig are in second place in the Bundesliga, but neither is expected to mount a serious challenge to win the league this year at this point.
This matchup comes to the betting slates of soccer betting fans courtesy of the Champions League round of sixteen, and is the first leg of the matchup.
Liverpool vs. RB Leipzig Three Way Moneyline
- RB Leipzig +200
- Liverpool +130
- Draw +260
On the three-way moneyline, Liverpool find themselves to be the nominal favorites, with +130 odds to Leipzig’s +200 odds. A draw is a fairly likely outcome in this first leg matchup, with +260 odds of occurring.
However, RB Leipzig is coming into this game red hot as they’ve won four straight and have outscored their opponents 10-1. Liverpool, on the other hand, is coming into this game having lost three straight games in the premier league.
Liverpool vs. RB Leipzig No Draw Moneyline
- RB Leipzig +115
- Liverpool -155
The no draw moneyline gives bettors a bit of a better picture of how the sportsbooks believe these two teams match up.
It’s worth noting that RB Leipzig made it to the semifinals of the Champions League last season, and that they are currently performing better domestically than Liverpool is. Liverpool could be coasting on name recognition in this matchup - people remember how elite they were before the pandemic.
RB Leipzig vs. Liverpool Odds To Qualify
- RB Leipzig +195
- Liverpool -235
Given that this is a multi-leg matchup, with another leg to be played in the near future, the odds to qualify can be an intriguing wagering position to examine.
These odds will shift depending on what happens in the matchup today, meaning that they are a decent way to double down on a belief in either of these two teams.
NHL Betting
The Pittsburgh Penguins and the Washington Capitals are set to face off once more in Pittsburgh.
The Penguins enter this matchup with a record of 7-5-1-0, while the Capitals clock in at 6-4-1-2. Despite these relatively similar records, one aspect of the Penguins’ season stands out - they have not lost a game at home yet, with a 5-0 record in Pittsburgh.
Washington Capitals vs. Pittsburgh Penguins Moneyline
- Washington Capitals +105
- Pittsburgh Penguins -125
With the Pens being undefeated at home and having a better record overall, they deserve to be favored, perhaps more than they are. However, the puck line is a different story for the Penguins and a very disconcerting one for anyone who wants to bet on them.
Washington Capitals vs. Pittsburgh Penguins Puck Line
- Washington Capitals +1.5 (-230)
- Pittsburgh Penguins -1.5 (+190)
The Capitals have an 8-5 record against the puck line so far this season, while the Penguins are a woeful 2-11.
The trends suggest that a wager on the Caps on the puck line is a shoe in, but one wonders what that implies about wagering on the Penguins straight up. It’s intriguing that the Penguins have not lost a game at home yet this season, but have also only covered the puck line once in those five home games.
The Penguins are also 7-0 straight up in their last seven games as favorites, which is yet another data point that suggests taking the Penguins on the moneyline and the Caps on the puck line.

However, if one is doing this, one might want to consider taking the odds on the Penguins winning by one goal, which are set at +625, as it is effectively the same wager.
Bettors might also consider only taking one of these trends to heart for this matchup.
This matchup is very interesting from a hockey betting perspective given the trends that are at play.
NBA Betting
The Brooklyn Nets are currently in third place in the Eastern Conference, and are looking to figure out the dynamics of their newly formed superteam.
Kevin Durant is currently out of action, while James Harden and Kyrie Irving are working on splitting up their roles, which tend to overlap.
Kevin Durant will miss at least the next two games with a left hamstring strain, the Nets say.

The Nets may be in third place in the East, but they have a worse record than the Phoenix Suns, who are fourth place in the West. The Suns have won nine of their last ten games as they look to replicate their bubble success over the course of the 2021 season.
Brooklyn Nets vs. Phoenix Suns Spread
- Brooklyn Nets +4.5 (-110)
- Phoenix Suns -4.5 (-110)
Without Durant, the Nets seem to be genuine underdogs in the face of a surging Phoenix squad.
Intriguingly, many online sportsbooks opened this line at Phoenix -2.5, which could be explained by a simple home-court advantage and the fact that the Nets are on the second game of a back-to-back.
However, it seems that a lot of money must have come in on the Suns at those odds, as they are now favored by 4.5 points. The Nets are 5-8 against the spread on the road, while the Suns are 10-4 against the spread at home, so there does seem to be a genuine home-court advantage here.
The Suns’ 9-1 streak straight up in their last ten games also holds up when the spread is taken into account - they’re 9-1 ATS in their last ten as well.
They say that good teams win and great teams cover, and the Suns have been a great team for the last ten games.
NBA betting enthusiasts might worry about being late to this line - at Phoenix -2.5 it was a good bet, but now that it’s at Phoenix -4.5, it’s a little less enticing.
Good luck!
