LAS VEGAS - Welcome to this Friday edition of the Daily Sports Betting Preview!
Today’s Preview kicks off with a look at the NBA, as the Milwaukee Bucks take on the Utah Jazz. Then, the Australian Open continues with some of the best tennis players in the world. Finally, the Pebble Beach Pro-Am features some intriguing golf betting lines.
There’s a lot to cover, so let’s get started!
NBA Betting
The Utah Jazz are the best team in the NBA right now, with a record of 20-5, and have been dominating all comers. The Jazz have won nine of their last ten games, and are perhaps the biggest surprise in the league this year.
Today, they’re faced with a tough challenge in the form of the Milwaukee Bucks, although the Bucks, like the rest of the East, have underperformed this year.
Utah Jazz vs. Milwaukee Bucks Spread Odds
- Milwaukee Bucks +3.0 (-110)
- Utah Jazz -3.0 (-110)
The online sportsbooks, at this point, are forced to respect Utah as a legitimate contender, and they’re home favorites against the dangerous Bucks.
The line for this matchup opened at around Jazz -1.5 at most sportsbooks, and has moved towards the Jazz over time.
It’s not hard to see why. The Jazz are 18-7 against the spread so far this season, which represents just how unexpected their run has been. In addition, the Jazz are 8-1 against the spread in their last nine games as home favorites, and 9-3 against the spread in their 12 home games played this season.
The Bucks, meanwhile, are 0-4 in their last four games as underdogs, although they do enter this game on a 7-3 run against the spread in their last ten games.
The Bucks have not been able to rise to challenges this season, and the Jazz certainly constitute a challenge.
This matchup is interesting. It features a team that has been unable to cover the spread against great teams going up against an undeniably good team that needs to prove that it’s great. NBA bettors can look at this from either perspective. Either the Jazz are an elite team, or they aren’t.
If they are, they’re probably worth taking as three point home favorites. If they aren’t, the Bucks could make short work of them.
ATP Tennis Betting
The Australian Open continues as the field begins to get whittled down to the truly elite players.
Rafael Nadal, chasing his 21st Major victory, remains in the field, and is one of today’s biggest favorites. He faces off against Cameron Norrie, the 69th ranked player in the world. Norrie’s ranking marks him as a nice pro, but he’s not likely to stand a chance against Nadal.

Rafael Nadal vs. Cameron Norrie Odds
- Rafael Nadal -5000
- Cameron Norrie +1600
Nadal’s odds are incredibly prohibitive, as they likely should be. The -5000 odds yield a return of a little over 1%.
There are certainly bettors who would be ecstatic at a 1% return, but those are unlikely to make up more than a small portion of the readership of this column.
Rafael Nadal vs. Cameron Norrie Spread Odds
- Rafael Nadal -10.0 (-120)
- Cameron Norrie +10.0 (-110)
This spread is downright disrespectful, and yet, it’s hard to argue that it’s incorrect.
Nadal being favored by 10 games is one thing, but Nadal being favored by ten games with a bit of shading his direction? Wow. The 10.0 spread is such an enormous spread that even though it is Nadal, tennis betting fans must start wondering whether or not his injuries will allow Norrie a shot at covering.
Nadal’s injuries shouldn’t prevent him from taking the win here, but maybe they could allow Norrie to cover a truly large spread.
Golf Betting
The Pebble Beach Pro-Am is ongoing, and the live betting odds are being updated by the minute on the online sportsbooks.
Pebble Beach Winner Odds
- Patrick Cantlay +175
- Jordan Spieth +800
- Daniel Berger +1000
- Henrik Norlander +1400
- Paul Casey +1400
- Francesco Molinari +2800
- Akshay Bhatia +3300
- Kevin Streelman +3300
- Will Gordon +3300
Patrick Cantlay holds a commanding lead over the field both on the odds boards and the scoreboards, with a -10 so far in the tournament. Henrik Norlander and Akshay Bhatia sit at -8, the closest players to Cantlay, but the sportsbooks seem sure that Cantlay will outplay them down the stretch.
Jordan Speith is the next most favored player on the odds boards, and he currently sits at -7.
He has a lot of work to do to catch Cantlay, which is a big reason why his odds - even though they’re the next most favorable - are so long.
However, the sportsbooks also expect Cantlay to outplay Speith in this round.
2nd Round Match Up - J. Spieth v P. Cantlay Odds
- Jordan Spieth +115
- Patrick Cantlay -150
Cantlay is a -150 favorite to have a better score than Speith in the second round of the Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Cantlay tees off at 12:03 p.m. EST, while Spieth tees off at 11:52 p.m. EST, so they’ll be moving down the course at roughly similar times.
This could make for compelling viewing for golf betting fans as the two battle it out to see who is going to take home the trophy.
