LAS VEGAS - Plenty of excellent betting opportunities are present Wednesday but today’s edition of the Daily Sports Betting Preview covers just three.

First, college basketball returns today and a high level team is on display as Virginia takes on Towson.

Then, in the Champions League, Manchester City faces off against Olympiacos. Finally, the PGA’s European Tour features the Alfred Dunhill Championship and we break down the odds.

College Basketball Betting

College basketball is finally back! After the March Madness tournament was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, fans and bettors have been eagerly awaiting the new season.

Wednesday marks the first day of the new season, with games happening all day.

One of the most intriguing matchups features the fourth-ranked Virginia Cavaliers facing off against an unranked Towson team.

The matchup does not project to be close, but it gives bettors a good chance to look at what should be an elite team this year.

Virginia’s odds are prohibitive, to the point that wagering on them might genuinely be a bit pointless.

Their moneyline offers a 3.125% rate of return, which is a fairly low RoI, although it’s not the worst margin play.

The spread might be more interesting.

The spread features Virginia as a 19-point favorite, with a bit of shading in the direction of Towson +19.0.

Virginia is wildly better than Towson, but there are a fairly large range of possible outcomes in this game due to uncertainty about both teams.

College basketball bettors will have to discern whether or not the hype around Virginia is real enough for them to win by 20 points or more.

UEFA Champions League Betting

The UEFA Champions League features several interesting matchups Wednesday, but perhaps the most interesting sees Manchester City face off against Olympiacos.

Manchester City are not having a great year. They entered the season expected by many soccer sportsbooks to win the Premier League, and currently sit in 13th place.

However, they sit atop their Champions League group, Group C, where their form does not seem to have regressed very much at all.

They look to keep their European success going in this matchup against Olympiacos, reigning champions of Greece.

The two teams have already matched up once in group play, with City easily dispatching the Greek side by a score of 3-0.

The three way moneyline sees a City victory as by far the most likely option, with -360 odds.

This pattern becomes far more pronounced on the Draw No Bet line, where City are -1600 favorites. It might be worth risking a draw to get the better odds on Manchester City on the three way moneyline.

The spread for the matchup is 1.5 goals, with the following shading:

The shading favors Olympiacos +1.5 by a slim margin over Manchester City -1.5.

There are a lot of different ways for soccer bettors to approach this matchup, although the discrepancy between City’s line on the Draw No Bet wager and the three way moneyline is certainly worth noting.

Alfred Dunhill Championship

The PGA’s European Tour brings the Alfred Dunhill Championship to the televisions of many golf bettors across the world.

The tournament is one of very few PGA level events played in South Africa, and will take place at Leopard Creek Country Club.

It features some of the biggest names on the European tour, and a significant amount of parity in the odds.

Note: The odds posted below only go up to +4000, but there are available wagers on participants with odds up to +150000.

The top of the odds board is home to Brandon Stone and his +1100 odds, a significant pre tournament favorite.

Stone, 32nd on the European Tour, is one of the best South African golfers in the world, and paces the field in this tournament.

He is followed fairly closely by Robert MacIntyre at +1400 and Christiaan Bezuidenhout at +1600.

MacIntyre, a 24 year old up and comer, won his first European Tour event in July at the Aphrodite Hills Cyprus Showdown.

He looks like a favorite to pick up a second win in his fledgling career, although not the odds on favorite.

Christiaan Bezuidenhout is a top 50 golfer in the world right now, and another South African standout.

Bezuidenhout has won one previous European Tour event, the Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters in 2019.

Overall, this field is full of young talent and high-potential standouts, and is well worth looking at for any golf bettor.
