- The Washington Capitals have +115 odds to defeat the New York Islanders.
- Oklahoma is favored by 4.5 points over Texas.
- Daniel Bryan is the favorite to win the WWE Men’s Royal Rumble with +125 odds.
LAS VEGAS - Welcome to this Tuesday edition of the Daily Sports Betting Preview!
Today’s Preview kicks off with a look at a great matchup between the Washington Capitals and the New York Islanders.
Then, the Preview takes a gander at the basketball matchup between Oklahoma and Texas. Finally, the WWE’s Royal Rumble is coming up this weekend, and futures are already up on the sportsbooks.
There’s a lot to cover, so let’s get started!
NHL Betting
The Washington Capitals are set to take on the New York Islanders in a renewal of one of hockey’s best rivalries.
The Capitals were unceremoniously dumped out of the playoffs by the Islanders the last time these two teams met.
Now, they look for revenge, as they visit Washington as mild road favorites.
New York Islanders vs. Washington Capitals Moneyline
- New York Islanders -135
- Washington Capitals +115
The Islanders are 3-2-0-0 on the season so far, while the Capitals sit at 3-0-1-2, having only played two games at home.
One major betting trend with the Capitals is that they have covered the puck line in five of their six games so far.
New York Islanders vs. Washington Capitals Puck Line
- New York Islanders -1.5 (+180)
- Washington Capitals +1.5 (-220)
However, this matchup is so close that the puck line odds on the Capitals are fairly expensive at -220.
Still, they are by all appearances a safe bet to cover a +1.5 spread in a matchup this close.
The question for hockey betting enthusiasts is whether or not the -220 price on the Caps puck line is too high to be valuable.
College Basketball Betting
The University of Texas basketball team is excellent right now, ranked fifth in the nation by the AP Poll. On Tuesday, they face a tough test in the Big 12 in the form of an Oklahoma team that is hovering around the edge of the rankings - 24th in the AP Poll.
Texas vs. Oklahoma Spread
- Oklahoma +4.5 (-115)
- Texas -4.5 (-105)
Texas is a 4.5 point favorite over Oklahoma on the spread, although there is some shading towards Oklahoma +4.5.
It’s important to note that Texas will be without coach Shaka Smart, who tested positive for COVID-19. Despite this, they are still favored.
Intriguingly, Texas has been pretty poor against the spread overall, with a 6-7 ATS record. However, at home, that record gets even worse - the Longhorns are 2-6 ATS when they play at home.
Oklahoma is not that inspiring against the spread either, with a 1-3 ATS road record.
Oklahoma is 7-3 against the spread in their last 10 games, so they do have that going for them, but the home ATS trend is not good news.

College basketball wagerers may want to stick to the moneyline for this one, as Oklahoma is untrustworthy on the road.
Texas vs. Oklahoma Moneyline
- Oklahoma +165
- Texas -190
The moneyline sees Texas as a -190 favorite over Oklahoma, who clock in with a +165 puncher’s chance. Texas on the moneyline could be a solid bet in this matchup, but -190 is fairly expensive.
That said, neither team is particularly worth believing in on the spread right now, so it could be best to play it safe.
WWE Betting
The WWE Royal Rumble kicks off on Sunday and promises to be one of the most exciting events of the year.
The Royal Rumble is a full PPV card, but on that card are two official Royal Rumble matches - one for the men and one for the women.
The matches involve 30 people, each entering on a timer, and the winners of each match get shots at a title of their choosing.
Odds To Win 2021 Men's Royal Rumble
- Daniel Bryan +125
- Keith Lee +400
- Brock Lesnar +700
- Big E +750
- Edge +1000
- Drew McIntyre +1200
- Goldberg +1400
- Bray Wyatt +1500
- Seth Rollins +1600
- AJ Styles +2000
- Kevin Owens +2500
- Roman Reigns +2500
Daniel Bryan is such a favorite to win the Men’s Royal Rumble at this point that one wonders if the sportsbooks have inside information.
Remember, WWE is predetermined, which means that sometimes information can get leaked to the sportsbooks.
However, they are generally pretty good about not leaking, and plans certainly change on the fly inside WWE. After Bryan sits Keith Lee, who has been widely regarded as a potential new star, followed by Brock Lesnar and Big E.
Lee and E are up and coming singles stars that could have a rocket strapped to them with a win here.
Lesnar isn’t under contract with the WWE at the moment, but he is Brock Lesnar, so it’s hard to rule him out.
Odds To Win 2021 Womens Royal Rumble
- Bianca Belair +180
- Alexa Bliss +300
- Rhea Ripley +375
- Bayley +1000
- Sonya Deville +1200
- Charlotte Flair +1200
- Shayna Baszler +1600
- Ronda Rousey +1600
- Sasha Banks +2000
- Nia Jax +2000
Three women dominate the odds for the Women’s Royal Rumble, with Bianca Belair coming out in front.
Belair has been tipped as a potential new star for the WWE since arriving from NXT, and a Royal Rumble win could be the first step on her journey.
Alexa Bliss has been a threat in the Women’s division for years now, and deservedly sits near the top of these rankings. Rhea Ripley at +375 is a bit of a surprise as she is currently a member of NXT, but she’s a natural star that could be called up to the main roster at any time, including for the Rumble.
Those three are the safe bets, although it’s never a mistake to rule out Charlotte Flair inexplicably winning a match like this.
WWE bettors should keep in mind that wagering on wrestling is a form of entertainment betting - the results are known beforehand to some degree - and that means that a lot of the favorites tend to win.
Good luck!
