Can Rondale Moore Break Through To A Starting Spot In AZ?

  • Rondale Moore was selected in the first round of the NFL Draft by the Arizona Cardinals.
  • Moore was excellent in the Cardinals’ preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys.
  • Moore is still unlikely to see a ton of usage in the Cardinals’ offense but could do some real damage if he does.

GLENDALE, Ariz. - Let’s talk about Rondale Moore.

Moore, a rookie WR out of Purdue, plays for the Arizona Cardinals, and while other rookie receivers like Ja’Marr Chase and Rashod Bateman have been getting tons of hype throughout training camp, Rondale has remained largely uncovered.

That is, until a monstrous preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys in which he dominated possession and opened the eyes of fantasy football players everywhere who were looking for sleeper picks.

Moore was underutilized in college, and many typecast him as a bit of a gadget receiver, but he has legitimate talent downfield as well.

Moore was obviously the best player on his Purdue team and the team responded to that by getting the ball into his hands often, using him in designed plays close to the line of scrimmage.

However, he has legit burner speed down the field, clocking a 4.29 40 yard dash and a 42.5 inch vertical jump.

Brett Kollman of The Film Room pointed out that Purdue may have limited what his potential could be by using him as a crutch in the short game, simply because they didn’t have the talent to get the ball to him down the field.

PFF tweeted:

Rondale Moore’s debut: min. 10 snaps

84.0 PFF Grade (1st among WRs)
3 catches for 23 yards
2 carries for 16 yards

This seems to be all upside for Moore, who will look to be utilized not only downfield but as a guy who gets designed plays for him in the short game like jet sweeps.

In other words, he’s an offensive weapon that looks like he could be utilized throughout all stages of the game.

In this context, the following wagers on Rondale Moore are not particularly surprising, although their existence does indicate an increasing amount of hype about the rookie with online sportsbooks.

  • Rondale Moore 5+ TDs +225
  • Rondale Moore 10+ TDs +900

Moore could play a role in the offense for the Cardinals, but the question is what role he will fill.

"I don't ask for much in life but 15 touches a game for Rondale Moore would be tremendous," tweeted Field Yates, NFL Insider.

Yates begging for Rondale to get regular-season touches pretty much sums up the biggest problem Moore will face in his rookie season: the opportunity.

As of right now, he’s still listed as a backup on the Cardinals’ depth chart with a lot of mouths to feed in the Arizona offense.

He’ll have to supplant either DeAndre Hopkins, A.J. Green, or Christian Kirk if he wants to see serious time on the offense.

Of those, the most likely would be Green, but he’s reportedly had a great training camp. Moore appears to be the fourth WR in this offensive line at the moment, which means an injury could elevate him to a legitimately productive spot in Arizona.

It’s worth noting that Moore is an underdog to even get to five touchdowns, which suggests that sportsbooks think that he might not get the touches to make a difference for the Cardinals.

He is remarkably talented, however, and talent does tend to win out. Fans of NFL betting may want to keep an eye on Moore’s growth and on these props.
