Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson Favored To Win Palmetto Championship

RIDGELAND, S.C. – The PGA Tour heads back to South Carolina for its third tournament this season for the first-ever Palmetto Championship at the Congaree Golf Club.

The field is lacking in star power for this event as many of the top players are taking the week off ahead of the US Open.

Still, there is plenty of action to be had on the tournament as well as some big names looking to round out their form before the next major.

The result is a debut for the Congaree Golf Club on the PGA Tour with their new event, the Palmetto Championship.

Congaree is a unique course located just 90 miles from the site of the PGA Championship at Kiawah Island.

Where Kiawah is full of million-dollar homes and vacationing resorters, Congaree is situated directly in the heart of Jasper County, one of the poorest counties in the USA.

Despite the local economy, Congaree is a beautiful sprawling course built on an 18th-century rice plantation dotted with classic ranch-style buildings.

The owners of the course run a philanthropic effort in which they invite promising high school golfers from around the world to a four-week intensive on-site in which they learn life and golf lessons.

Members of the club then shadow the students through college and help them lead full lives through the game of golf.

“[The] vision was for Congaree to bring together like-minded individuals who played golf, loved golf and realized a philanthropic club was a conduit to be able to make a difference in the lives of deserving and underprivileged children,” said Bruce Davidson, Congaree’s co-director of golf.

Those looking to bet on golf this week will be seduced by the big names of Brooks and DJ atop the board, leaving tons of value below.

While Johnson has been off his game since the Masters, Koepka impressed many with his showing at the PGA Championship.

The best play for this week will be to see who is showing up to play during the first round.

With the field being so top-heavy, one could easily snag someone like Ian Poulter, Doc Redman, or Harris English after a decent first day.

From there, these bets will have way more value especially if one of the top dogs has a big day.
