- The New York Knicks are in the market for their next head coach after firing David Fizdale during the 2019 season.
- Tom Thibodeau has the highest odds at becoming the next Knicks head coach with -200 odds.
- Mark Jackson (+350) and interim head coach Mike Miller (+600) are also in consideration.
NEW YORK – The Knicks are currently searching for their eighth head coaching hire in 12 years.
Some might argue that the coaches are not to blame for their problems and that it falls on either the players or the general manager for not being able to bring in higher talent.
Whoever is to blame is no excuse, in 12 years, the Knicks have only had an above .500 record three times and have only been to the playoffs three times.
Finding the next head coach for the Knicks should be the starting point to their problems but online sportsbooks see this hiring as a quick process.
Next New York Knicks Coaching Odds
- Tom Thibodeau -200
- Mark Jackson +350
- Mike Miller +600
- Kenny Atkinson +700
- Jeff Van Gundy +1200
- Mike Woodson +1200
- Patrick Ewing +2500
- Becky Hammon +3000
- Pat Riley +7500
- Phil Jackson +15000
Tom Thibodeau
It makes sense that Tom Thibodeau is the favorite to be the next head coach with -200 odds.
Thibodeau was a longtime assistant coach for the Knicks from 1996-2004 so he definitely has a relationship with the city of New York.
He has also built a great resume as an eight-year head coach. Over his coaching career, he has had an above .500 record six times and has made the playoffs six times as well.
His style of coaching could be a little more questionable in today’s NBA as it is more of a go out and play your own game style.
Thibodeau did take a year off from coaching in the 2019 season which could’ve definitely helped him re-style his coaching method.
Mike Miller
Mike Miller is the current interim head coach as he replaced David Fizdale after a 4-18 record to start the season.
Miller was no better as he went 17-27 before the coronavirus pandemic shut down the season.
Miller currently has +600 odds to take over as the full-time head coach and this is surprising. He has only been coaching in the league for two years and one was as an assistant.
His coaching career does not back up his NBA odds at all.

As a six-year head coach at Texas State, he had an 87-79 record and as a seven-year coach at Eastern Illinois he had an even worse 75-130 record.
He did win the NBA G League Coach of the Year in 2018 as a head coach for the Westchester Knicks but that is not enough back up his odds.
Jeff Van Gundy
Jeff Van Gundy could be considered a longshot option to take the head coaching spot for the Knicks with +1200 odds but it is not entirely out of the question.
Van Gundy is well known around the Knicks organization as he served under the coaching staff for 14 years from 1989-2002 as he was an assistant for seven years and the head coach for seven years.
During his time as the Knicks head coach, he went 248-172 and even led them to the NBA Finals.
Van Gundy’s relationship with new Knicks president, Leon Rose, could also play a role in recruiting him to join the team.
Those that are betting on Jeff Van Gundy to be the next Knicks coach could be in for a nice payout as he is a great candidate to take over.
Becky Hammon
Becky Hammon is becoming more and more recognizable amongst the NBA Coaches.
She is the first female assistant coach to take on an NBA coaching job. She was also the head coach of the San Antonio Spurs 2015 summer league roster in which she led them to a championship.
Being an assistant under one of the greatest coaches in the league, Greg Popovich has done nothing short of grooming her to take on a head coaching position.
Hammon should be considered a dark horse candidate to be the next coach of the Knicks despite her +3000 odds.
Though she doesn’t have much experience as a head coach, her leadership and experience as both a player and assistant coach should be enough for her to prove that she is the real deal.
Bettors could enjoy a great cash out while betting on Hammon.
