- The Houston Astros start the road to the World Series against either the Oakland A’s or the Tampa Bay Rays.
- The “Win it All” promotion being held by the Gallery Furniture store in Houston to profit from the owner’s bet on the Astros to win the World Series ends on October 2.
- This wager could win upwards of $20 million for the store owner or lose him about $15 million.
HOUSTON – Owner of the store Gallery Furniture in Houston, Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale is betting millions on the Houston Astros to win the World Series. McIngvale is offering customers a full refund on all mattresses purchased with a cost of $3,000 or more if the Astros come home with the World Series Championship title. It took some research on the part of the 68-year-old store owner to find US sportsbooks willing to take on such a huge wager.
He decided to get help from two big-time bettors out of Las Vegas for the task. Mattress Mack was able to put his money down with three separate sportsbooks in three separate states. The states where McIngvale placed his wagers are in New Jersey, Mississippi, and Nevada.
Since the baseball team started gaining momentum toward a postseason run, the store has reported a considerable rise in sales due to the promotion. If the Astros win, all of the customers that participated in the “Win it All” promotion will see profits. However, if they lose, the money from the extra sales will help McIngvale hedge part of his wager losses.
"The customers aren't dumb," said McIngvale to ESPN. "They know what's going on. They're hedging themselves as well."
Houston is favored by sportsbooks to win the World Series with odds of +190. Behind them are the Los Angeles Dodgers (+250) and the New York Yankees (+350). The Astros ended their regular season with a record of 107-55, finishing first in the AL West. Their first ALDS (American League Divisional Series) game is on the afternoon of Friday, October 4. Their opponent has not yet been determined.

Back in 2017, when the Astros won the World Series in seven games, the store was able to do this same thing for their customers. McIngvale was able to give away $13 million in refunds from his bet payout to customers back then when the Astros beat the Los Angeles Dodgers. This time around he’s put down more than the $1 million in wagers he did two years ago.
"It worked out well for the Astros and it worked out well for our customers," said McIngvale of the 2017 win.
Houston must win three out of five games to advance to the AL Pennant series. Only after obtaining that will they move on to the World Series, where Mattress Mack and his community are waiting for the victory just like they did in 2017.
