Embiid Moves Ahead of Jokic in 2023 NBA MVP Odds

• With less than 10 games left in the 2022-2023 NBA season, Joel Embiid is the favorite to win the NBA MVP award with EVEN odds.
• Nikola Jokic was formerly the favorite, but now holds the second shortest odds at +105.
• Giannis Antetokounmpo and his first place Milwaukee Bucks represent a third contender for the award at +500.

PHILADELPHIA – Philadelphia 76ers superstar Joel Embiid has emerged as the favorite to win the 2022-2023 NBA MVP after an incredible March performance. The NBA MVP race between Joel Embiid and Nikola Jokic will come down to the wire as the final games of the NBA season are on April 9.

Joel Embiid’s Odds Make Comeback and Jump Jokic

Joel Embiid emerging as the favorite is a major development. Nikola Jokic maintained a wide gap between him and the field at the NBA All-Star break less than two months ago.

Jokic formerly was a -170 favorite to win the NBA MVP, with Embiid representing +370 odds to win it at the time. Now, Embiid has stormed in front as the favorite after incredible performances across the month of March.

In March, Joel Embiid is averaging 34.5 points, 9.3 rebounds, 4.7 assists, and 2.2 blocks per game. He’s been incredible both offensively and defensively, posting a +103 total point differential for the 76ers when he’s on the court this month.

Jokic has still been incredibly valuable to the Denver Nuggets, who hold a comfortable lead as the first-place team in the Western Conference. Jokic is not scoring as much as Embiid this month, only 26.3 points per game, but he is averaging more than double Embiid’s assist total with 9.4 per game in March.

This is not a situation where Jokic has underperformed recently and deservingly has fallen off the top of the NBA MVP odds board. Joel Embiid has just overperformed and been so incredible that he’s jumped Jokic in odds.

However, it’s not entirely a two-man race for the MVP.

Giannis has a compelling argument to be the 2022-2023 NBA MVP, leading the Milwaukee Bucks to the best record in the NBA at 54-21. The Greek Freak is averaging over 30 points and 10 rebounds per game in March and continues to push closer to Embiid and Jokic in the MVP race.

Jayson Tatum is the only other name worth mentioning outside of the incredibly dominant top-three candidates. Tatum has been inconsistent offensively and shouldn’t be considered to win the MVP, as indicated by his +15000 odds on online sportsbooks.

A decisive game that could swing MVP odds is a matchup between the Philadelphia 76ers and Milwaukee Bucks on Sunday. Giannis and Embiid will go head-to-head at 8 p.m. ET with a week left in the NBA season.
