NFL Draft Betting: Why Walker Is Now The Favorite Over Hutchinson

  • Travon Walker is favored to be selected first in the NFL Draft with -220 odds.
  • Aidan Hutchinson has +185 odds to be the number one draft pick.

LAS VEGAS – The NFL Draft is just days away and there has been a major shift in the odds on who will be the number one overall pick.

Former Michigan Wolverines defensive end, Aidan Hutchinson, has been the favorite to be selected first since the odds opened up.

However, just recently, former Georgia Bulldogs defensive end, Travon Walker, has jumped into the picture and is now the favorite to be selected first on online sports betting sites.

Odds To Be Selected Number 1 Overall

  • Travon Walker -220
  • Aidan Hutchinson +185
  • Ikem Ekwonu +550
  • Evan Neal +1800
  • Kayvon Thibodeaux +3300
  • Malik Willis +5000

Hutchinson’s NFL odds first opened up at +140 on January 19 and even moved down to -240 before Travon Walker jumped in the picture.

Walker’s odds did not come into play until March 10 when they opened at +2200 and quickly shot down to -220 come the beginning of April.

It is certainly a race between these two for the number one overall pick being that the Jacksonville Jaguars are in clear need of help on the defensive line.

Especially after allowing the ninth most rush yards to opponents this season at 125.1 rush yards allowed per game this season.

A Surprising Shift

Some might be thinking to themselves that this is a strange shift being that Hutchinson clearly outplayed Walker during their college careers. Hutchinson finished his last three seasons going for 143 total tackles, 10 pass deflections, 18.5 sacks, and 4 forced fumbles.

Walker, on the other hand, did not come close to those numbers as he went for 65 total tackles, 4 pass deflections, 9.5 sacks, and 1 forced fumble.

Also, Hutchinson has a 33% success pass-rush win rate compared to Walker’s 11% and has also played 1,514 snaps outside tackles compared to Walker’s 529. It just seems that Hutchinson has more experience overall than Walker at this point going into the draft.

Where Walker thrived though was in the draft combine where he posted a 4.51 50-yard dash, a 35.5-inch vertical, and a whopping 9.99/10 relative athletic score. That score is third amongst all defensive ends since 1987.

With his athletic ability certainly not in question, it makes for an easy to mold and develop player in Walker meaning the Jaguars could work on him and train him to be the player they want.
