Donald Trump's Lawsuit Vs. USFL
Heading into the 1984 USFL season, Donald Trump had purchased the New Jersey Generals with the intention of competing with the NFL. In order to compete with the NFL, Trump wanted to move the season from spring to fall. However, the NFL had already locked up every television network for the fall in which Trump and the USFL had every right to sue them for being a monopolist.
Trump and the USFL had demanded $1.2 billion from the NFL in the suit. The jury in the case did agree that the NFL was being unfair in hoarding the television networks, however, the league was given just $1 in the case which tripled to $3 due to this being an antitrust case. With interest included after all was set and done, the USFL and Donald Trump had won just $3.76.
