NEW YORK – Madison Square Garden will host two games on Tuesday that make up the Jimmy V Classic in 2021.
Tennessee Volunteers Vs. Texas Tech Red Raiders
The Tennessee Volunteers and Texas Tech Red Raiders have very similar numbers on the season with the difference being that Tennessee has faced real opponents.
There’s a lot to break down between the two but online sportsbooks know the toughest team that Texas Tech has played is Providence, a game in which they lost.
Tennessee vs Texas Tech Spread Odds
- Tennessee Volunteers -4.0 -110
- Texas Tech Red Raiders +4.0 -110
Although the Vols lost to the Villanova Wildcats, they’ve also beaten the North Carolina Tar Heels. Aside from Tennessee being the more tested team, they match up well against the Red Raiders as well.
One of Texas Tech’s biggest strengths is its ability to force turnovers as they rank 11th in the country with 19.29 turnovers forced per game. However, the Volunteers currently have the 34th-fewest turnovers as a team on the season.
This should be a wake-up for Texas Tech as they’ll finally be playing a true opponent, but it’s also a top-15 team in the country which should make for a tough night filled with struggles.
The game will air at 7 p.m. EST on ESPN.

Villanova Wildcats Vs. Syracuse Orange
The second game of the night at MSG will be between the Villanova Wildcats and Syracuse Orange. Syracuse has been one of the tougher teams to get a grasp of this season, losing to Colgate and VCU but beating Indiana, Florida State and Arizona State.
This makes the Orange one of the few teams in the country to play more Power 6 teams than not.
Syracuse vs Villanova Spread Odds
- Villanova Wildcats -8.5 -105
- Syracuse Orange +8.5 -115
The experience against legit teams is not expected to play much of a factor according to the college basketball betting sites. Assuming Jim Boeheim sends his team out in his classic 2-3 zone defense, Villanova should have a field day against it. The biggest weakness to the zone is perimeter shooting which the Wildcats happen to be elite at.
The team shoots 42.15% from three, sixth-best in the country thanks to seven different players shooting 35% or better from behind the arc. One thing worth noting is that this will be the first time Cole Swider, a Villanova transfer, faces his old team.
Jay Wright knows his weaknesses having seen him every day in practice for three years which could leave one of the Orange’s top players rendered useless.
ESPN will have coverage of this game starting at 9 p.m. EST.
