Gus Edwards, Marcus Peters Lead Long List Of Injuries Before Season

  • Both Gus Edwards and Marcus Peters suffered torn ACLs before during the NFL preseason.
  • The Baltimore Ravens have -200 odds to beat the Raiders for Monday Night Football.
  • Curtis Samuel and Jamison Crowder will be out in Week 1 for their teams.

LAS VEGAS – Injuries are something that will never go away in the NFL and are also a part of every game. Unfortunately, some teams could suffer more than others when multiple players sustain injuries that keep them out at the same time.

Before the Sunday slate of NFL games and Monday Night Football, teams are already suffering from injuries that can affect their odds with online sportsbooks. Some teams that have started to feel the pain are the Baltimore Ravens, Washington Football Team, and the New York Jets.

Baltimore Ravens Spiral

No team has suffered like the Baltimore Ravens have in terms of injuries. At the end of the preseason, the Ravens starting running back, J.K. Dobbins suffered a torn ACL, which is now sidelining him for the season. With that, it was shaping out to be a backfield of Gus Edwards and Justice Hill until Hill suffered a torn Achilles.

That left Edwards to take over as the lone running back for Baltimore up until he then tore his ACL, along with the Ravens star cornerback, Marcus Peters, in their last practice before the start of the season.

With now most of their backfield out for the season and the loss of their star defensive back, going into MNF, the Ravens still sit with favored -200 odds in Week 1 over the Las Vegas Raiders.

If there was ever a time to take a longer odds situation, it should be here on the Raiders. Even before all of the injuries, the Ravens would have had a tough time against the run defense that the Raiders bring with them in names such as Yannick Ngakoue, Denzel Perryman, and K.J. Wright who lead the way.

With no true RB1, the Raiders' front seven could be too much for the Ravens to handle and could have an effect on the NFL odds.

Samuel Lands On Short Term IR

The Washington Football Team will have to wait a bit longer to see Curtis Samuel make his debut for the team as he was placed on the short-term injury reserved list with a groin injury.

This is a tough blow for Washington as they were originally 3-point favorites against the LA Chargers in Week 1, but have since seen their odds shift down to just 1-point favorites with the injury.

Luckily, the Washington defense has a very high ceiling this season to back them up, but they will be thin at the receiver spot with only Terry McLaurin and Logan Thomas as the most reliable options to throw to.

Jamison Crowder Out Week 1 With COVID-19

As if things could not get any worse for the New York Jets, they are now going into Week 1 against the Carolina Panthers shorthanded at receivers with Jamison Crowder out on the COVID list.

Crowder left behind big shoes to fill after opening up the 2020 season with three straight games of over 100 yards. With one less receiver making plays, rookie quarterback Zach Wilson may find it difficult to make plays to his receivers.

The Jets are already going into this game as 4-point underdogs and now that they are missing one of their top receivers, things could get out of hand quickly for them.
