LAS VEGAS—Drafting a fantasy football team could go one of two ways. It could either go very smooth for some that draft smart and do research before draft day or it could take a turn for the worst for those that go off of big names and don’t look more into the players they are drafting.

Although being listed as TE6 on the season, that really is not saying much being that the tight end position does not have too much depth in it. Hockenson is entering his third year in the league and this Detroit Lions roster could be the worst in all three years with a receiving group that is led by Tyrell Williams, who would be the third option on any other team.
Even with Hockenson going in as the leading receiver, he still has to worry about Jared Goff under center who was way down as the 23rd ranked efficient quarterback in the league last season after going for 3,952 yards and 13 interceptions which tied for 31 in the league.
Not to mention, Anthony Lynn is also the Lions offensive coordinator which brings Hockenson’s value down even more being that he is primarily known for his 14 seasons as a running backs coach. With that, surely he will be the top target for Goff this season but fantasy owners and bettors can expect a lot of forced targets and overthrown passes. He should not be drafted in rounds 1-3 as more value can be found later on.

This might come as surprising and to be clear, what Justin Jefferson did last season putting up 1,400 yards on the year is very impressive, however, it will be extremely hard to match or even top that number again. Not to mention, he broke the rookie receiving record by a whopping 465 yards and finished the season with the fourth-most yards.

There are some factors though to take into consideration for Jefferson’s value this season. The main ones are that not only will Adam Thielen get his fair share of targets for all he has accomplished but also the emergence of Irv Smith at tight end as well. Also, Dalvin Cook is fully healthy to start the season as well and his pass-catching ability is one of the best amongst running backs in the league as he has gone for over 350 yards receiving in two seasons.
Not to say fantasy owners should stay away from Jefferson in this draft, but based on his NFL odds and his explosion of a performance last season, he should not be going before the third round and bettors could take his under for his season total as well.

As many bettors and fantasy GMs could have guessed, Joe Mixon is a player to not be fooled by once again in fantasy football. He is being drafted at RB12 right now which seems way too high for a player that is coming off of an injury that limited him to six games in 2020 and also one that underperformed in every category in 2019.
One of the main issues that Mixon is facing this season that he has been facing for multiple season’s already is the lack of talent on the offensive line which is one of the reasons that not only caused Mixon to get hurt but also Joe Burrow.
That alone, bettors should be flirting with the Under for his total and avoid drafting him in rounds 1-3 by all means necessary.
