Boston Red Sox Headline Underdog Payoff Betting Odds

• Much closer to even, the NY Mets are slight underdogs (+135 odds) to battle in the playoffs.

BOSTON - Online sportsbooks are posting betting lines for if teams will make the playoffs or not. Looking at certain teams, one can evaluate if the underdogs may be a good wager, as taking the longshot odds may bring in major returns if it becomes a winning bet.

The Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Angels, and New York Mets all have longshot odds to make a playoff run, but their offseason moves and past season success may show that they can surprise everyone.

Betting On The Red Sox

MLB bettors are taking major action against the Red Sox making the playoffs.

Last season, the Red Sox finished with a record of 84-78 and was third in the AL East.

Although the team failed the make the playoffs, their season had big moments that would make it possible to believe they can improve during this shortened season.

The Red Sox managed to take out the Tampa Bay Rays both times the teams faced one another. The Rays made the playoffs last season with a 96-66 record in 2019.

Boston also revamped their team during the offseason, with major signings including Martin Perez, Kevin Pillar, and trading for Andenys Bautista.

This is an entirely different team than what missed the playoffs last season, and with fewer games, specifically, home games where Boston struggled last season (33-43 at home), Boston may manage to surprise everyone.

Betting On The Angels

The Los Angeles Angels are also getting limited action on them making the playoffs at online sportsbooks.

The Angels went 72-90 last season, having one of the worst road records in the league at 34-47. Sill, LA managed to make some interesting moves in the offseason that may make them more completive this year.

The big addition is signing third baseman Anthony Rendon. Rendon was a major part of the Washington Nationals World Series run in 2019.

Coming off of his best season in the majors, and bringing the championship mentality to the Angels, it is only plausible to assume the team will drastically improve.

Betting on The Mets

The New York Mets were 86-76 last season and unfortunately were unable to make the playoffs. Odds at online sportsbooks show that sports bettors don’t expect them there this season either.

The Mets real struggles game on the road, going 38-43 away from Citi Field. With the shortened season, it is possible that they will be able to capitalize and make a playoff push with fewer road games to worry about.

New York also managed to show big moments, beating the would-be champions Nationals 2-0 in March, as well as going 2-2 against the Yankees, including a 10-4 win at Yankee Stadium.

The Mets showed fight all season, and during the offseason they acquired outfielder Jake Marisnick from the Astros, strengthening their outfield presence.

There is no telling how the season will progress or what the results will be, but taking action on the underdog may pull in some major returns with this shortened season.
