LANSING, Mich. – The United States is home to the fastest-growing sports betting markets in the world, and Michigan will be one of the newest states to roll out its online sports betting platform.
DraftKings will be among the first to tap into the market after reaching an agreement with the Bay Mills Resort and Casino – the longest operating casino in Michigan – on Thursday.
The agreement will bring both in-person and online betting to Bay Mills Casino when Michigan rolls out its retail sportsbook.
The Michigan Gaming and Control Board just started the process of reviewing applications for online sports betting licenses in May so the expected date for Michigan’s online sports betting launch is early 2021.
As soon as online sports betting in Michigan launches DraftKings already has its online betting platform ready to accept bets.
Until then, Bay Mills will have the state's first DraftKings Sportsbook that will compete with William Hill, FOX Bet, PointsBet, BetMGM, and FanDuel.

With many other major sports betting companies already planted in Michigan, it's impossible for DraftKings to monopolize the state.

DraftKings likely doesn’t mind getting into the Michigan sports betting market a little bit late as their partnership with Bay Mills comes because they were one of the few casinos left without a sportsbook partner.
A possible factor in DraftKings move into Michigan comes after a consumer study showed the potential for the company to appeal to casual bettors upon launch.
This is just another step in growing the sports betting giants reach, in what has been quite the year for DraftKings who also went public in April.
