Will The English Premier League Return To Play In 2020?

• The government in the UK wants to bring soccer back to the people of the country to help the overall morale while trying to reopen from the Coronavirus pandemic.
• Should the teams and their players agree to come back, games are set to begin on June 8.

BOSTON - The English Premier League (EPL) was given the go-ahead on Monday to resume their 2019-2020 season any time after June 1 as permitted by the British government.

However, discussions on Tuesday led to no clear comeback being scheduled. Both the Football Association and EPL met to go over the plan that was rolled out to the UK about the reopening of the country from the Coronavirus pandemic lockdown.

It was said that the league is shooting for a June 8 start date if they begin playing at all.

The Potential Return Of EPL

The games and other events in the UK would be held behind closed doors, continuing to implement guidelines of social distancing with large crowds. “Our Plan to Rebuild: The UK Government's COVID-19 Recovery Strategy” is a 50-page proposal to allow these events to start back up again.

While people would not be allowed to attend any of these engagements, they would all be televised for sports enthusiasts in the country.

The EPL games would be available for fans to watch and bet on again after three months without any matches.

There are still 92 games left on the schedule to be played so soccer betting lines will be exploding at online sportsbooks.

Although it is unknown whether or not the EPL will resume their schedules in June, no betting site currently is offering odds on the EPL.

The British government is insisting that the games return to help boost the country and it’s morale but not all the athletes are in favor of this decision.

"The government is saying we are bringing football back because it is going to boost the nation's morale,” said Danny Rose, England defender via a live Instagram post.

"I don't give a f--- about the nation's morale, people's lives are at risk. Football shouldn't even be spoke about coming back until the numbers have dropped massively. It's bollocks. We'll see. I'm supposed to tested on Friday so we will just have to wait and see."

Of the 20 teams in the league, a total of 14 need to vote in favor of a return of the season to allow for it to occur.

After hearing the government’s proposal more than half of the teams spoke out against it.

Further discussions will need to be had to come to a final decision. However, if the EPL follows the government plan, games will begin on June 8 for fans everywhere.
